When to Seek Specialist Help for Trauma
Early help shortens recovery, so don’t wait until she seems sick enough to need it.
A two-minute read, three things to try, for ages 5 to 11.
Where to start
- Ask whether early input would help, not whether she is sick enough.
- Take sustained changes over six to eight weeks to your GP.
- Go through your GP for community paediatrics, CAMHS and play therapy.
- Any of these, sustained, is worth bringing to your GP.
- The GP is the way into NHS services, including community paediatrics and CAMHS.
It goes with
- Trauma in Childhood. For parents whose child has been through something hard, or whose family has.
- When a Child Is Grieving. For parents whose child has lost someone, or something, that was there last week.
The first chapter you open here is free to read in full.
