The note to send your parent community

Written so a school can use it as it stands, or cut it to a paragraph. Change anything; it is yours.

For schools to adapt and send as their own.

The short version, for a newsletter

Our staff can now send you pages from The Parent Book, a library of therapist-written support for parents, and anything we send opens free. It covers the things families deal with, from sleep and screens to friendships, anxiety, exams and grief, and each subject has a free page you can print that says what to do first. You can find those pages at theparentbook.com/help.

The longer version, for a letter

Dear parents,

Much of what is hardest about family life happens in the evening, when there is rarely anybody to ask. Books help, but a book can’t answer the question you have tonight.

Our staff now use The Parent Book, a library written by therapists who work with children and young people and organised by the problem a family is facing. When something in it might help, we can send it to you, and it opens free. It holds chapters to read properly, one-minute pieces for the evening you are in, things to do with your child, and short tools for the parent rather than the child.

Every subject also has two pages you can print and keep: one that sets out what helps, and one that names the organisations beyond the school and beyond this library, what each does, and the number to ring.

Those two pages are free to anyone, with nothing to sign up for, at theparentbook.com/help. The rest of the library is available to parents by subscription.

If you are worried about your child, please do still speak to us. This doesn’t replace talking to the school.

The Parent Book. Therapist-written support for parents, with a free page on every subject to read and print.

A note on what we would avoid saying

We would not describe it as a wellbeing programme, or as a resource the school is rolling out. Parents have heard both before. It reads better, and is more accurate, as a library your staff can send pages from.
